Yesterday, two humanists in Kansas testified against a bill that would replace qualified mental health counselors with untrained, volunteer “chaplains” in their state’s public schools. That might sound complicated, but thanks to our policy team, those local advocates had everything they needed to take action quickly and say “not in our community” (with the evidence to back it up).
Those humanists in Kansas are part of our growing national network of advocates. And we’re asking you to join them. Sign up to advocate with us in 2026!
When you sign up, we will provide you with the tools and support you need to effectively advocate for humanist values, then we’ll ask you to work with us on targeted opportunities — whether that means meeting with lawmakers, submitting testimony ahead of bill hearings, or mobilizing in your state when it matters most.
This is not another newsletter or generic action alert list. It’s a long-term power-building project of the AHA and our advocacy affiliate, the Center for Freethought Equality. We won’t spam you. We’ll only reach out when there’s a training opportunity or when we need to influence your elected officials on an as-needed basis — and it works.
As a constituent, when you speak up to your lawmakers about what you want, they listen. That’s why, when our policy team is advocating for policies that protect evidence-based, inclusive, and secular public education and health policies this year, we want you to join us.
Defending the separation of church and state and standing up against Christian Nationalism is a shared effort, and we all play a role in the movement. Take just two minutes now to sign up to advocate with us in 2026.
